Grooming

Grooming your bernedoodle

Doodles coat can be a bit tricky. Mixing with the poodle makes us hypoallergenic dogs. Basically, we don’t shed. My parents soon realized that the money they would save not having to clean the house because of dog hair,  they had to spend at the groomers. Yes, I need to get a haircut OFTEN. Unless my parents want to brush me daily, which I know they don’t want to do, lol

Let me explain how my hair works. I don’t have the softest poodle hair; I’m more like a Bernese that doesn’t shed. My head and ears are soft and fine hair, my body is a bit waive, and my tail is super ticked like a lion’s hair.

Initially, my parents thought they could keep my hair long and fluffy. They changed their mind as soon we went glamping (you can check the trip here). All the dried pine needles glue on my body, and it was a nightmare to remove them. Not mentioning when we go to the beach, backpacking, or just a walk at the park. Everything sticks to my body.

Me before and after a haircut

My parents haven’t shaved me completely (yet) – thanks to my mom. But they keep my hair short, about 2-3 inches. It grows fast. I need to go to the groomer every 2-3 months. I don’t really like it, but I learned to live with it. I have so much hair that you can hide treats on my coat.

Talking about price, it’s expensive. Imagine you have hair all over your body and need to cut it often. That’s how much it costs. Let’s leave it there.

My mom is very picky with who cuts my hair, we have tried a couple of groomers before, and she didn’t like anyone except for Trim. They know what they are doing, and every time I leave the groomer, I look like a teddy bear, my hair is entirely even, and I smell amazing for days.

I am sure my size doesn’t help to keep the price cheaper. But anyways, that’s one of the prices my parents had to agree to when they got me.
